Lieutenant Elaine, Knight of the Realm

A sassy street performer from the capital and former thief, it was only fitting that this energetic young rabbit girl be put into the care and guidance of Captain Lilian and Sergeant Babler. Sir Elaine is a wonder with the spear and sword, and her natural ability at acrobatics makes her one of our most talented scouts and riders. She is, however, quite arrogant and bold due to her recent successes and her youth. I feel her years and her officers will mold her into one of the greatest knights of our age. She has a peculiar coat for a rabbit out of the capital. A white blond coat, like the hares of the great northern tribes, the likes of which have not been seen since the war against the dark forces of the Rotten Isles. Sir Elaine is a marvel, to be sure. Why, only yesterday, she rescued a family of field mice from an avalanche in the southern mountains during a training operation with her platoon. We all have high hopes for this spirited Knight officer.

The Night of Fire

A raid has swept through the small fishing village to the Keep’s north, and there have been few survivors. Our scouts reported that a large bandit force originating from the Rotten Isles arrived in the night and set the large village aflame. The people of the village of Ban were put to the torch and the sword, many of their children taken for slaves. A small group of survivors staggered in last night, half dead and mostly children. The few Knights who were stationed nearby were slain in the town’s defense. A regiment of Knights of both Clawhouse Keep and our southern brothers and sisters of Fairven Keep are marching to push out the invaders and take back the prisoners. I fear a war the likes of which our people have not seen in their lifetimes is upon us. I can only hope our brave knights can push back the darkness once more.

The Knights of Paw and Claw Founders

Many scholars and Recorders have bickered over the origins of our prestigious sect of knights. The 13thitself has quite a history, but for this short recording I shall endeavor to discuss the most agreed upon beginnings of our order. King Eld the Fox, the first predator to wear the crown after the great lion king, King Holl, encountered during a sea voyage a large group of fleeing folks, all appearances seeming they were from the Isle of Dos, now known as the Rotten Isles. King Eld journeyed to the Isles only to find terrifying dark magics there and creatures made of the same dark arts seeking to conquer the Isles. Many of the King’s soldiers died and the King returned to warn and prepare his people for the dark forces to come inland. A declaration was made, and all who were willing to be trained to carry sword and shield in defense of our land would be knighted and made heroes of the Realm. Some joined, but it was not until the first landing of the dark forces that the people truly rallied to the growing Knight order’s cause. Soon, the Knights were the only forces struggling against the dark waves of monsters. We prevailed, and King Eld’s daughter, Loria, the only royal to survive the onslaught, became Queen Lor and swore the Knights, both predator and prey, into service of the Valley of Stars and beyond. And so, the Knights of Paw and Claw have guided, protected and served the people of the Realm.

Sergeant Babler, Knight of the Realm

Sgt. Babler is a presumptuous and perplexing old scoundrel of a badger. His many heroics and accomplishments in the tournaments are equaled to, if not rivaled by, his insubordination towards officers he has (quite literally) butted heads with. Babler is shorter than most badgers, but stocky, strong, loyal and true to fault. He takes little nonsense from his higher ups, and he is strict but fair with the younger officers and enlisted. He is a perfect example of the backbone of our enlisted knights, and a true warrior of honor. Babler’s greatest distinguishing feature is the long sword cut scar running across the top of his blackened furred head, leading to the missing top half of his right ear. This scar was gained in service during a one on six battle between Babler and assassins seeking to kill the King. Babler has served alongside Captain Lilian since his recruitment from a prison cell when he was a young rouge highway man robbing from passing noblemen.

Captain Lilian, Knight of the Realm

Captain Lilian, known among the enlisted as the “Red Devil” due to her actions and ferocity in battle (and for her red fur). Sir Lilian joined the Knighthood after the burning of her family tree, leading to a village of squirrels seeking shelter at Clawhouse keep. From there, the small orphaned red squirrel became the youngest ever recruit into our numbers. Sir Lilian served on multiple campaigns for the King and Queen and was on the famed expedition to the Rotten Isles to reclaim the 14thSects former Keep. Lilian lost her husband during the tragedy of the Night of Fire. This has caused her to go from an open and boisterous warrior to a more cautious and introspective Knight. While some have called this a beginning of wisdom, I caution the command elements to not push anything too strenuous on the hero knight. While I believe she has much to teach the younger officers and enlisted, I worry her hesitance may lead to serious repercussions.

Lieutenant Marcus, Knight of the realm.

Lieutenant Marcus, Knight of the realm.

Sir Marcus is a junior officer, recently distinguished in the grand tournaments, held annually in the Valley of Stars. Sir Marcus is a young adult field mouse from the Blackened Coast, and a survivor of the Night of Fire. He has brown fur streaked with white and a longer tail than most field mice of the Valley. Sir Marcus’ mother and father both served in the Knights of Paw and Claw. Sir Emera, Sir Marcus’ mother, and Sir Herold, his father, both fought and gave their lives during the Night of Fire during the final cavalry charge that drove the rat horde from our shores. Sir Marcus carries this sacrifice and final devotion of duty close to his heart, judging his own actions against them critically. Sir Marcus is eager to live up to his parents. He is headstrong and physically capable, commonly first to volunteer and last to report injury or weariness. Sir Marcus is a welcome resurgence of old breed mentality among the troops and younger enlisted. His avid desire to serve and his extensive knowledge of combat strategy and troop movement and management is an inspiration to our entire sect. If he continues on the path he has set for himself, Sir Marcus will rise quickly through the ranks, as long as his intensity and standards set by his parents sacrifice do not hinder his judgement too harshly. Sir Marcus has been assigned to our most decorated officer, Sir Lilian, a fiery red squirrel commander who will temper the young mouse’s flaming passion with her own, we hope.
